Don't you care?

Image
I came across this piece some years back, did some modifications; I just hope the message remains intact. Enjoy!!! You are driving home after a tiresome and energy-sapping day at work, you decided to tune your radio to hear the local news, you heard the breaking news that a small town in India has been struck with a strange disease, leaving about four people dead already, you don't give it much of a thinking at first- at least people die every day. You got home into the warm embrace of your wife and only son, after your meal, you settled to listen to the evening news and you heard that there is more to the news  its not only a town but three hundred towns with lots of people dead and still counting, but still it never got your attention because Chelsea is playing Barcelona in the champions league semi final that same night. You woke up the next morning and the headline news was that, the symptoms of this disease is now in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait and  infact the ...

The real cost

Image
Thanking  @ jossef69 for his help in tweaking (as he choose to call it) this piece. Check him out here . One of the greatest expenses you will ever have in your life is opportunity cost- Warren Buffet. Chief Peter had an accident and lost his car; a GMC 2014 limited edition. He was en route to present the classy wheels to his daughter on her 21st birthday. Mister Paul also had an accident with his 1996 model Beetle that managed to double as a private vehicle and a taxi. It happened on one of his incessant visits to the doctor…. oh, mechanic. Here are the questions before us: What is the common factor? Both of them lost their cars in an accident. How are they different? One has fleet of cars; the other has fleet of cares. What is the cost of the accident? The former loses a little portion of his salary’s worth while the latter have creditors breathing down his neck. What is the opportunity cost? For Chief, it is the daughter’s goodwill he would have enjoyed as a result of ...

Who will bell Tomcat?

Sometimes it beats my imagination, the values, morals and lessons entrenched in various folklores we read as kids and funny enough how relevant their contents are, even now. Really enjoyed this ‘rhetorical’ story and hope you would also, as we add some remix to it further than the line. There lived a generation of rats whose habitation was in a barn and whose main job was the satisfaction of their belly to the detriment of the wares and frustration of the owner. The owner had no choice than to get a cop who will bring all these culprits to book. The following week, Inspector Bobcat arrived the barn to resume its official duties. He did his job so well that rats preferred death by poison or suicide to death by Bobcat; he had them for breakfast, brunch, lunch, “lundin”, dinner at will. When the massacre and genocidal act by Inspector Bobcat was becoming unbearable, the rats had no choice than to call for an emergency meeting to find a way out. After loads and loa...

That feeling...

Image
Prescript The feeling of indispensability of one’s life totally exposes the frailty of human existence. The inevitability of death quashes the indispensability romance. It looks very human and normal to get to certain stage in life and have folks around us look up to us for one thing or the another, barring any irony or paradox, it is just the way life is designed-no man is an island they say. Our greatest undoing lies in the thinking of “we can’t be done without”-thinking that we don’t actually complete the puzzle because we are the puzzle ourselves-who are we to think that way? Dearest Sir/Madam,  it might take time and time’s all we need. It might not be rosy but the hope that it’s going to bloom someday keeps us on our toes. That it might be bitter (without you) actually hinges on the sensitivity of our taste buds. Why feel your absence when your presence makes no difference in the first place-The true feeling of your absence gives t...

Quick scribbles: Curious case of Senior Gimba

Image
Prescript Yeah that was delibrate, afterall if what you write at the base is called postscript then the one you write at the top should be called… It’s been a while .We were told that when life gives you a lemon then tryna make a lemonade out of it. Anyway I’m still thinking of the right flavor to make out of the lemon life inevitably presented. It’s good to be back and better (winks).   Junior Gimba was the name. To say Junior was a victim of crosshatcheted hypocritical parenting or his misfortune was simply down to his failure to reconstruct an already faulty upbringing, either way, you would be safely safe between the two extremes called right and wrong. Join in the voyage as we briefly sail through the waters of Junior (son) and Gimba snr (father). Bon voyage!!! Junior!!! The voice reverberated through the house jolting him back to reality as the scream of his dad’s ‘basscular’ voice drowned the sound of the television he was watchin...

LORD OF THE STORMS

Image
A beautiful evening it was The moon all out in its splendor Smiling on us with full vigor As we gallivant and talk away in the boat Enjoying the caress of the gentle breeze As we make our way to the other side Out of the sudden came the unexpected The calm tide of the see turns the opposite Calmness turned violent-unlimited Our boat was at its mercy Rocking and swinging side to side The melodious tune eluding us Beads of sweat turns to streams of fear Broad grin turns chagrin with pounding hearts The end is in view, we thought As we pass through death’s shadow Words of faith elude us As the “reality” of life dawn on us Carest thou not that we perish We unanimously bawled out Unto our master napping in the face of the storm Why sleepeth he at such a crucial time? Was he unaware or simply clueless? Of the fact that death was at the door knocking His reply made no sense Why talk of faith in the face of death? He was our last resort anyway As we ...

PROSPECT OR RETROSPECT:SCRIBBLES BY THE SUNLIGHT

17/06/2014,  2:45PM Woke up yesterday with the normal feeling and excitement of a brand new day and the anticipation of its offerings. The major task of the day being a trip to Bowen University Iwo, Osun state Nigeria, West Africa (the adjectives are indeed needed) with just a singular and simple mission **to deliver an essential document to my sister**I knew it was going to be a long day but I never knew it was going to be longer than the “long” preconceived by my heart earlier. On getting to the town I got wind of the fact that the campaign train of one of the state’s gubernatorial candidate is stopping at the town, not bulging still, I flagged down a number of bikes but noticed they were all rejecting my advances until one reluctantly agreed (but with exorbitant charge) citing traffic congestion because of the campaign. The journey was smooth until we got to a junction where we met a group of thugs shouting to hell with the opposition party bla bla bla, it wasn’t actually the ...
