DISCIPLINE II

Image
A gross misconception commonly made is the costly assumption of equating discipline with "suffering". Someone once said that "prosperity is a greater test of character than adversity" and this is so true because there is always this facade sense of humility in times of adversity, the true stance of a man is known through his sense of judgment in times of plenty. The innate relationship between the monkey and banana is only known when it sees a banana and not when you toss an orange. Discipline derives its true meaning not from assumption but fervent resolution against all odds. Thus we can safely conclude that self-discipline is arrived at when there is no difference between the "you in plenty" and the "you in nothing". Embedded in between this gap is a strong moral resolve coupled with divine providence.

DISCIPLINE

Image
George Washington said "Discipline is the soul of an army; it makes small number formidable, gives strength to the weak and brings esteem to all". Discipline is doing what is required of you at the required time to get the desired result; it is doing what is demanded to get what is expected. If discipline were to belong to a family tree, it would be a very close sibling to self-control; it entails the deliberate and conscious effort to channel one's energy to a particular cause in order to achieve a particular goal. Emerging successful in anything requires discipline; What champions do daily, losers do occasionally, it’s all embedded in discipline. Discipline is always the main ingredient in the story behind every glory. You may ride to life's pinnacle on eagles wing, but what keeps and sustain you is discipline.

SALT OF THE EARTH

Image
One of salt’s ability that easily comes to mind is in its ability to act as a preservative. As Christians we are called to act as a preservative to our world, we are called to save a dying world. What happens when it is noticed that the so-called salt was unable to prevent from decay but even adds to the rottenness already on ground, ironic isn’t it? Many of us Christian have loose our saltiness and the kind of stench emanating from us “the useless salt” is even greater than that of the rotten world we are called to preserve. Most of what we see are Christians by assumption, birth and religion, Christians who bask in the euphoria of “our father’s “ exploits, whose egoistic and calm “all is well” assumption gives a false preview of their spiritual status (at least a useless salt is also white in color as the good one), Christians who prefer to drown to death than cry for help, who bogusly sit on the seat of mediocrity hoping the tides of event would favor us in as much as we

IN THE PROCESS OF TIME

Image
It’s ironic how this simple four letter words (t-i-m-e) makes or mars our precious life. TIME is one of the few words that have the longest and broadest meaning in the dictionary. Our life seems to pass on with the passage of time. There is this trickish and beautiful saying which goes thus “the end justifies the means”, that shows that this life we are living is a means to an end and what beautifully sums up this means is the “process of time”. Funny how what we give ourselves to ultimately ends up in what becomes of us. As time can’t be reversed, it carries also vital aspect of our lives which can’t be reversed, funny how our so called life can be robotically influenced by this mystery word (t-i-m-e). What are we making of time OR what is time making of us……….. Funny how it is the same process of time that produced cult members (who later become a menace to the society) in our university undergraduates that also produced professionals in different course of study. The proc

Growing up OR Growing old

Image
Came across this lovely piece by an anonymous writer You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.” REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.
