The real cost

Thanking  @jossef69 for his help in tweaking (as he choose to call it) this piece. Check him out here.

One of the greatest expenses you will ever have in
your life is opportunity cost- Warren Buffet.

Chief Peter had an accident and lost his car; a GMC 2014 limited edition. He was en route to present the classy wheels to his daughter on her 21st birthday.

Mister Paul also had an accident with his 1996 model Beetle that managed to double as a private vehicle and a taxi. It happened on one of his incessant visits to the doctor…. oh, mechanic.

Here are the questions before us:

What is the common factor? Both of them lost their cars in an accident.

How are they different? One has fleet of cars; the other has fleet of cares.

What is the cost of the accident? The former loses a little portion of his salary’s worth while the latter have creditors breathing down his neck.

What is the opportunity cost? For Chief, it is the daughter’s goodwill he would have enjoyed as a result of surprising her on her birthday. For our other dear mister, it is the three square meals that would have been at least steady while the beetle lasted.

It explains the difference in the mourning schedule of a family who lost their firstborn and a family who lost their breadwinner. The difference simply lies not in the cost but the opportunity cost of their demise.

Perhaps, the best definition we can give opportunity cost is what should have been that was not, as a result of what is currently being done.

If folks definitely had taken cognizance of this subtle factor, we would have restructured our lives on life’s scale of preference.

How do we talk about cost without considering benefit? Mr. Giwa is a chimney on two legs; the only thing that is still “awaiting” on his smoking consideration list is fire itself.

What is the benefit? The momentary ecstatic feeling, I guess.

What is the cost? Kidney failure? Bad breath? Well, you aren’t totally right or wrong!!

The real cost is the cash that would have been generated from one park of cigarette daily for the past ten years. The lovely and happy family cigarettes wouldn’t permit him to have… blablabla.

The only guiding angel we have to help us from this cost benefit brouhaha is called choice. We are free to make our choices but the real cost of those choices eventually hunts us. If the benefits outweigh the cost, you are safe, otherwise it is just what it is: otherwise.

Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junks, every situation is a choice. You choose how to react to situations, people and things. The bottom-line is that it is your choice how you live life. This would in return infer if the opportunity cost would indeed be costly or worth it.
While worrying about the cost of doing something, endeavor to take note of the cost of doing  nothing.
The quality of your life is based on the choices that you make.

All in all, in our court lies the ball.
