We Remember

Image
The hands that dried our tears when all that was left to do was to cry The ears who patiently listened to our rants when all that was remaining was anger and fury The ones who gave us a shoulder to lean on when the trusted pillars disappointed us The ones who though had little gave us everything The ones who silently cheered us on, when all there is about us is failure The ones who gave up everything so we might have everything The shoulders upon which we stood to see clearly The rugged candlestand upon which we stood to light the world, who endured the agony of our hot wax The ones who wept when our eyes were soaked and grinned when our lips broadened The ones who stayed when everyone else left The ones who looked backed when everyone else minded their business The ones who prayed with us in the secret and cheered us on in the open The ones we truly don't deserve We acknowledge that we got so busy and for a tad moment, forgot those days W

A Tale Of Sevens and Perfection

Image
This lovely piece was written by Adewoyin Joseph . What prompted his writing of this post about a year ago is also prompting my putting it up here.Dedicated to a friend who just scaled through the medical school, and to those whom the odds seems to be against ,only earnestly and tenaciously holding on to that tiny and frail thread called hope. Never ever doubt in the light what God told you in the dark. He has brought you this far,he isn't ready to let go. Enjoy! He writhed for several seconds on his majestic bed as series of moving pictures flashed before him behind his shut eyes. Sweat beads gathered on his face, a few trickling down his temples, finding their way down to wet the soft fabric of his bed. He broke loose and jerked up, letting out a draught of air accompanied by a mild grunt through his throat. Befuddled, clueless and exhausted as he was, he motioned to a window in his furnished chamber, exposing his face to the naked caress of the breeze and taking in a

The Judge

Image
Through the nasty muddy street, she was dragged Pelted with stones of various shapes and sizes As they had a swell time on her flesh Hurting nay sweet caress Her skin discharging its red liquid content dutifully Her crime? She was caught doing the unthinkable Where there is no law, there is no sin, they say As she was charged at and dragged to the master’s feet What shall we do to her? They sought Devious and coward question!!! The master was speechless To judge or not to judge Guilty as charged Or Discharge and acquitted The brain chose the former The heart took solace in the latter Stooping down on bended knees He said Let the sinless man throw the first missile Deafening silence ensued Tick tock! Tick tock!! Tick tock!!! Where are your accusers? Hath none condemned thee? He asked As a crowd of many morphed into an audience of one Neither do I Go and sin NO MORE I only know of one, who won’t judge nor condemn you, neither will He gossip about it nor make

In her defence...

Image
May the defense counsel now speak: Thank you my lord; Years ago, I found myself in the midst of some folks-due to the inevitable campus factor called hostel, a naïve innocently indifferent boy who found himself among sexual geeks, chasing virtually anything in skirt. Their stunts are no news, but the real news happens to be the behind the scenes cum the pity I felt for those feminine preys afterwards. A lady comes into the room to visit her boyfriend, after series of amorous sweet talks; she finally yielded to cooking for him and us- the friends of friend. Series of tedious and laborious clinging of pans and spoons followed, which leaves her enervated- no thanks to those red flames emanating from men’s cooking stove. Food is finally ready. She leaves for her dormitory immediately as we began salivating and yearning for the delicacy- mission accomplished!!! We scramble for the pot and after series of jostling here and there, we eventually settle down to savor our meals. Gross silence

That long walk...

Image
Twas just two of them, walking down than that dusty and lonely road. It’s being a long hard week. Perplexed and confused they were. The scorching sun was hitting hard on them, so was their thumping heartbeat- like it was about to pop out - no thanks to anxiety. Beads of sweat form round their brow while some escaped - trickling down their cheeks. They were exhausted as they wobbled down the road, sweats and dust merging to form a cakey texture round their feet-to complement their haggardness. They were lost and deep in thought. Why should He leave at such a crucial time? We left everything to follow him, only for him to let us down when we needed him the most!!! But he raised the dead and said he was God, how come he was helpless in the face of mere mortals? He spoke with great authority, then, but why was he speechless when it mattered most? Judyboy had committed suicide, Pete had gone back to fishing, and others had followed him while Tommy’s whereabout remains unknown!!! What has f

Don't you care?

I came across this piece some years back, did some modifications; I just hope the message remains intact. Enjoy!!! You are driving home after a tiresome and energy-sapping day at work, you decided to tune your radio to hear the local news, you heard the breaking news that a small town in India has been struck with a strange disease, leaving about four people dead already, you don't give it much of a thinking at first- at least people die every day. You got home into the warm embrace of your wife and only son, after your meal, you settled to listen to the evening news and you heard that there is more to the news  its not only a town but three hundred towns with lots of people dead and still counting, but still it never got your attention because Chelsea is playing Barcelona in the champions league semi final that same night. You woke up the next morning and the headline news was that, the symptoms of this disease is now in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait and  infact the whole

The real cost

Image
Thanking  @ jossef69 for his help in tweaking (as he choose to call it) this piece. Check him out here . One of the greatest expenses you will ever have in your life is opportunity cost- Warren Buffet. Chief Peter had an accident and lost his car; a GMC 2014 limited edition. He was en route to present the classy wheels to his daughter on her 21st birthday. Mister Paul also had an accident with his 1996 model Beetle that managed to double as a private vehicle and a taxi. It happened on one of his incessant visits to the doctor…. oh, mechanic. Here are the questions before us: What is the common factor? Both of them lost their cars in an accident. How are they different? One has fleet of cars; the other has fleet of cares. What is the cost of the accident? The former loses a little portion of his salary’s worth while the latter have creditors breathing down his neck. What is the opportunity cost? For Chief, it is the daughter’s goodwill he would have enjoyed as a result of surp
